Which hinge is Best?
First thing to determine-How tall are the doors you are installing? How tall is the overall door opening? Is there a header?
We will help you determine the best hinge for your application. The application depends on the installation that you prefer, the height of the doors, and the height of the door header.
The Bommer 7811, 7813, 7812, and 7814 work perfectly for doors that are full length and that are being installed into a traditional door opening where there is a header in place. The top pivot assembly can be recessed into the door header or flush mounted to the door header.
For the Bommer 7811 and 7813, the bottom pivot assembly mounts to the floor, and the top pivot assembly mounts to the doorway header. The Bommer 7811 hinge offers a hold-open feature at 75-90 degrees, the Bommer 7813 is a non-hold-open version.
For the Bommer 7812 and 7814, the bottom pivot assembly mounts to the door frame (jamb), and the top pivot assembly mounts to the doorway header. The Bommer 7812 hinge offers a hold-open feature at 75-90 degrees, the Bommer 7814 is a non-hold-open version.
The only difference between the Bommer 7811 (7813 non-hold open) and 7812 (7814 non-hold open) is how the bottom pivot assembly mounts. If you prefer to go directly to the floor, then 7811 or 7813 is the best hinge. If you prefer to mount to the door jamb (tile flooring, etc.), then 7812 or 7814 is the best hinge.
When you purchase custom doors with the Commercial Grade Horizontal Spring Pivots (Bommer 7800 series hinges), Swinging Café Doors does all the door calculations regarding height spacing and door width. Swinging Café Doors also does the cutout for recessing the hinge. The doors will be fully prepped for the hinges. Swinging Café Doors does ask the customer their preference for the top header mount and bottom pivot assembly location.
If there is no door header, then you will need to use the Bommer 7818 or 7819. These hinges work perfectly for almost full-height doors or saloon-style doors. The Bommer 7818 and 7819 are fully installed onto the door jamb and not into the door header. There is a larger gap required at the top for these hinges.
