Interior Panel Designs: Understanding Raised, Shaker, and Glass Styles

When designing custom swinging doors, the panel style defines the door’s character. At Swinging Cafe Doors, every door is crafted from quality hardwoods and precision joinery — not veneer or particle board — ensuring long-lasting performance and a premium finish.

Our Interior Panel Designs include three popular options: Raised Panel, Shaker Style, and Glass Panel, each crafted to meet different design preferences and functional needs.

Raised Panel

Raised Panel Design

(Example shown: Cathedral Top Raised Panel)

This Raised Panel design features a cathedral-style top with a cove-raised center and an ogee rail and stile profile.
Each door is made from solid red oak, never veneer over finger-jointed wood or particle board like cheaper alternatives.

The raised profile adds dimension, texture, and a touch of craftsmanship that complements traditional and classic interiors.

Highlights:

  • Solid red oak construction for strength and durability

  • Deeply profiled raised panel with cathedral curve

  • Ogee edge detailing for elegant shadow lines

  • Ideal for formal and traditional interiors

Best suited for: formal dining areas, home offices, or spaces with classic woodwork and trim.

Shaker Panel

Shaker Panel Design

This Shaker Style design offers a clean, flat ¾” plywood center panel, surrounded by a solid oak shaker-style rail and stile frame.
The Shaker look is simple yet timeless — perfect for homeowners seeking an understated design that’s easy to clean and versatile across many interiors.

Highlights:

  • Solid oak rails and stiles with a flat inset panel

  • Durable ¾” plywood construction (not MDF or composite)

  • Smooth, easy-to-maintain surface

  • Works with both stain-grade and paint-grade finishes

Best suited for: kitchens, laundry rooms, home bars, and Craftsman or Cottage-style spaces.

Glass Panel

Glass Panel Design

This Glass Panel design combines the simplicity of the Shaker frame with the brightness of glass.
Unlike many cheaper doors that use 1/8" or thinner glass, Swinging Cafe Doors uses ¼” tempered glass to ensure long-term durability and safety.

Because of this thicker glass, we’re able to install it directly into the panel, eliminating the need for bulky trim pieces or unsightly stops.

Available Glass Options:

  • Clear

  • Matte

  • Rain

  • Glue Chip

  • Fluted

  • Select tinted colors

Highlights:

  • Shaker-style frame with inset glass panels

  • ¼” tempered safety glass (not fragile thin glass)

  • Multiple decorative glass finishes available

  • Clean, modern look for both residential and commercial applications

Best suited for: kitchens, offices, restaurants, and other spaces where light and visibility are desired.

Choosing the Right Interior Panel Design

Each panel design serves a unique purpose and complements a different aesthetic.

  • Raised panels bring traditional warmth and dimension.

  • Shaker panels provide timeless simplicity and durability.

  • Glass panels allow for light flow and an open, modern appearance.

All Swinging Cafe Doors are custom-built to your measurements and can be finished in your choice of paint or stain. Each door is crafted with solid materials and American-made quality that stands apart from mass-produced alternatives.
