Are you looking for double action hinges where you can maximize the door height, we have the answer. The best hinges to allow for max height and width is the Bommer 7800 series. There are several variations of this hinge, so let us explain the hinges, so you can use the best hinge for your application. There will still be gap using these hinges, but these are the smallest gaps possible with double action hinges with full height doors.

These hinges can be used for single swing doors as well as double swing doors. Max door width is 36”. Gaps will be ¼” on the sides between the door jamb and door. Gaps in the height vary based on jamb mount and floor mount. The floor mount is going to have a smaller bottom gap of 9/16"; jamb mount bottom gap is 11/16”. The top gap for both floor and jamb mount is 1/4". Gap in the center of double doors is ¼”. All gaps have a tolerance of +/- 1/8”. All hinges have a 36” max width and 90 lb door rating.

Horizontal Spring Pivot: If you are mounting the doors into a traditional door opening and full height, then you will need a Bommer 7811, 7813, 7812 or 7814. The top pivot hinge will mount to the door header. Here is an explanation on the different options available.

Bommer 7811- Available in Primed, Gloss Black, Zinc, Polished Brass, Satin Brass, Satin Nickel, Satin Chrome, Oil Rubbed Bronze, and Oil Rubbed Bronze- Blackened Finishes. Allows for max height with a double action hinge. The Bommer 7811 hinge uses a spring to pull the doors back to center, self-returning. The hinge allows for a hold open position or a non-hold open (Bommer 7813). This hinge mounts to the floor and allows the top pivot to be recessed or flushed mounted to the top of the door header. You can adjust the spring tension on the hinge to allow for a faster or slower swing of the doors. Max width of door hinge is 36" wide, thickness of door 1-3/8" to 1-3/4". When ordering doors from Swinging Cafe Doors, we do all of the measurements for the hardware. We need the overall door opening height and door opening size. We can calculate the exact height and width for your doors. Since we are working with wood, there is a tolerance of +/- 1/8” for all clearance that we mention. Bommer 7812- Available in Primed, Gloss Black, Zinc, Polished Brass, Satin Brass, Satin Nickel, Satin Chrome, Oil Rubbed Bronze, and Oil Rubbed Bronze- Blackened Finishes. This hinge mounts to the door jamb and requires the top pivot to be recess or flushed mounted to the top of the door header. You can adjust the spring tension on the hinge to allow for a faster or slower swing of the doors.

If you are mounting doors, but they cannot go into the door header, or the door header is taller (more than 1/4” taller) than the doors. You will need a Bommer 7818 or 7819. The same functionally of the other Bommer hinges, but the top pivot mounts to the door jamb. The bottom portion of this hinge can be ordered as a jamb mount or floor mount. Bommer 7818- Available in Primed, Gloss Black, Zinc, Polished Brass, Satin Brass, Satin Nickel, Satin Chrome, Oil Rubbed Bronze, and Oil Rubbed Bronze- Blackened Finishes. This hinge can mount to the door jamb or to the floor. The top pivot mounts to the door jamb as well, it cannot be recessed or mounted to the door header. You can adjust the spring tension on the hinge to allow for a faster or slower swing of the doors. The non-hold open version is the Bommer 7819.

These hinges are recessed into the doors and into the header, see instructions for further details. They can withstand a commercial application though also popular in a residential setting. The Commercial Grade Gravity hinge has a load weight of 90 lbs per door. These saloon door hinges allow the door to swing open in either direction and automatically return the doors to the center position. The hinge allows for the doors to hold open at approximately 75-90 degrees in either direction. These hinges also allow for doors up to 36" wide. These hinges are sold individually.

This Bommer hinge comes with several mounting options: floor and header, jamb and header, jamb and jamb, and floor and jamb. If you are purchasing custom doors, you just need to give us your overall door opening size and select the height of doors you would like. We will provide the correct hinges to install the doors. Please note: to get the hinges that install to the door header you will need to purchase doors no less than 1" shorter than your overall door opening height.

Trouble-shooting Commercial Grade Horizontal Spring Pivot Hinges

These bommer hinges have an adjustable spring, you can adjust the spring to make the doors swing faster or slower. These hinges allow for the tallest door, but there will still be a small gap above and below the doors. This allows the hinges to work properly and clearance for the swinging action.
